As part of activities to commemorate its 10th anniversary,
Toyota Ghana Co. Ltd. undertook a 3-day road safety campaign
in Kumasi to educate motorists on the need for safe driving.
The programme aimed at supporting the efforts of the Motor
Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police to reduce
road accidents in the country.
The Dep. General Manager for National Sales, Mr. Eric Dako,
who read the speech on behalf of the MD, Mr. Masato Kimata,
made it known that Toyota Ghana’s concern for road safety
dates back to our sponsorship of ARRIVE ALIVE on JOY 99.7 FM
in Accra since 2000. This program was dedicated to discussion
on road safety issues. We also sponsored the African Road Safety
Conference held in Accra between in February 2007 and we still
sponsor a weekly front page strip in the Daily Graphic devoted
to tit bits on the proper maintenance of vehicles.
It thus comes as no surprise, according to him, that as the
company chalks 10, we have formed a very close bond with New
Edition Road Safety Campaign - a Kumasi based NGO which is making
great strides in Road Safety education. He further stated that
the Ashanti region is known to have the worst driver practice,
behavior and road traffic accident records in Ghana. Kumasi
is the capital of the region and therefore an excellent place
to focus a campaign of this nature.
He believed that by this campaign, people will be made more
conscious of the need to maintain their vehicles properly, use
genuine parts, observe traffic regulations, wear their seat
belts and ultimately save lives.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Ashanti Regional Commander of
MTTU, Supt. James SARFO Peprah stressed the need for all stakeholders
to support the promotion of road safety campaigns as accidents
affect not only families but the nation as a whole. He expressed
his appreciation to the management of Toyota Ghana for supporting
the efforts of the MTTU and related organisations to promote
road safety campaigns and save lives. See pictures below.
