Toyota Ghana sponsors a day's seminar on road safety organized by E-Transport and Engineering Company Limited at Apam in the Central Region. The seminar was organized to educate police personnel and drivers from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) on the methods of reducing road accidents, the effects of drink driving and defensive driving.
In his welcome address, the Deputy Coordinating Director of the Gomoa West District Assembly, Mr. Mohammed S. Musa, expressed his gratitude to E-Transport and Toyota Ghana for organizing such an educative seminar.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Michael Bortsie of E-Transport and Engineering Company Limited stated that statistics provided by the National Road Safety Commission portrayed that an average of four (4) persons are killed daily in road traffic accidents. This has made it very necessary to constantly upgrade and enlighten drivers on safe driving techniques.
The District Police Commander, Superintendent Owusu-Berko said although it will be a difficult task achieving a zero percent accident rate, intensifying the rate of public road safety campaigns and enforcing road traffic laws can help bring sanity on our roads.
Mr. Masato Kimata, MD Toyota Ghana Company Limited, entreated participants to put what they have learnt into practice and pass the acquired knowledge on to those who were not present.
Mr. Kimata, assisted by Ama Asante, PR/CS Manager of Toyota Ghana, presented 30 reflective jackets to the District police commander to support the Police Service in their traffic surveillance activities.
