TOYOTA OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS TO DISCIPLINED USERS OF THE TARKWA NSUAEM MUNICIPAL LIBRARY

Toyota Ghana has awarded scholarship worth about GH¢7,000 to ten (10) pupils in various basic schools of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municpal Assembly to carter for their educational needs.

As a responsible corporate citizen interested in improving the lives of the people in the communities within which we operate, Toyota Ghana, after renovating and stocking the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Library in Tarkwa with children’s books, last year, awarded scholarships to deserving disciplined users of the Library. This scholarship awards took place on the 18th of September, 2009 in Tarkwa.

In his welcome address, the Director of Ghana Library Board, Western Region, Mr. Joseph Boye, commended Toyota Ghana for not only donating books and refurbishing the Tarkwa Library but also establishing a scholarship award scheme to keep alive the habit of reading in children. He entreated other institutions in the district to emulate Toyota Ghana by deciding to set up libraries as part of their societal responsibilities.

Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr. Masato Kimata, the General Manager, After-Sales Service, Mr. Mikio Ohashi, intimated that after renovating the Tarkwa Library, Toyota made a promise to award scholarship to disciplined users of the library, students who visit the library often and return the books on time and also in a good condition. The donation made included Toyota branded school bags, textbooks, footwear, school uniforms, money for the payment of school fees for one year, stationery etc. He stated that the aim of the awards was to alleviate the burden of the parents and also to encourage and motivate the children to take their studies seriously.

The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Catherine Davis expressed her gratitude to Toyota for such a noble gesture. She also congratulated the award winners for adopting the habit of reading and encouraged the other children to emulate their peers so that they could also benefit from such future award schemes.

Hon. Christina Kobinah, the MCE of Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, implored the teachers and librarians to draw a reading programme to help nurture the reading, writing and listening skills of the children and also inculcate the habit of reading.

Toyota Ghana intends making the scholarship awards scheme an annual programme.
