In collaboration with the Ghana Wildlife Society, Toyota Ghana organized a tree planting exercise on the Korle Restoration Site, around the Korle Lagoon in Accra to mark the World Environment Day. The exercise, dubbed “The Greening Project”, is aimed at creating a public relaxation park around the Korle restoration site.
The MD/CEO of Toyota Ghana, Mr. Takahiko Takabayashi, expressed his appreciation to Ghana Wildlife Society for conceiving the idea of tree-planting to commemorate World Environment Day. He further commended them for involving the Wildlife Club members of some Senior High Schools in the exercise. He believes that by such a strategy, we will be cultivating an environmentally responsible future population of Ghanaians. Mr. Takabayashi reiterated that as a corporate body, the conservation and sustainability of our environment forms one of the core principles Toyota uphold. He added that by planting more trees, we do not only conserve the environment, we also provide aesthetics to our surroundings, beautifying and adding fresh colour to it in the process.
Mr. Jacob Oti-Awere, the Executive Director of the Ghana Wildlife Society, addressed the participants on the importance of trees and their benefits to society. He commended Toyota Ghana for taking the initiative to help maintain the environment, stressing that such activities are necessary for the sustenance of humanity because when the last tree dies, the last man dies. He called on other organizations to come aboard to support efforts towards the realization of the project objective of turning the site into a public relaxation park.
