Japan Relief and Recovery Efforts
On behalf of everyone at Toyota Ghana, we want to thank you for your deep outpouring of concern and support regarding the tragedy in Japan. Actually, the lives of many of our colleagues - and millions of others across Japan - have been affected greatly.
Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Japan, is taking steps to help support the relief efforts:
- President Toyoda visits - The President of TMC, Mr. Akio Toyoda recently visited the most severely affected area and talked to some of its people. Toyota and its people are supporting the relief efforts in the affected regions and helping to ensure the safety of our team members.dealers.and suppliers. along with their families.
- Donation in Japan - Toyota in Japan has donated 300 million yen (about $3.75 million) to support the relief efforts.
- Relief Convoys in Japan - Toyota companies in Japan have been sending truckloads of medical and emergency supplies - including food, drinking water, blankets, portable toilets and disposable diapers - to victims in affected regions from March 12, the day after the earthquake and tsunami. As of March 30th, more than 60 trucks had made deliveries and six tankers have been sent to provide water.
- Emergency Housing - Toyota has moved to provide nearly 500 apartments in Aichi Prefecture for people evacuated from affected areas.
- Vehicles for Relief Efforts - Toyota is providing about 100 cars for local government authorities to use in four of the areas hardest hit by the disaster.
- Distribution of Emergency Supplies - Toyota dealerships in affected areas of Japan are using their sites as temporary distribution centers for drinking water, food, cold-weather gear and towels to victims of the disaster.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with our friends, our colleagues and the people of Japan. We'll be sure to provide updates as they become available.
Japan Earthquake and Production
Toyota suspended production at all its plants, as well as at all subsidiary vehicle-manufacturing plants (e.g. Central Motors, Kanto Auto), from March 14th until March 26th 2011.
However, in an effort to support the servicing of vehicles already on the market, production of replacement spare parts started on March 17. And to keep overseas production lines moving, production of spare parts for overseas (including knockdown parts) started on March 21.
By the end of April 2011, delay in the supply level of parts as a result of the halt in production will be brought down significantly to 3 days. Normal supply condition is scheduled to be achieved by the end of May, 2011.
Toyota Ghana
To all valued customers of Toyota Ghana, we assure you of a regular supply of parts as we usually keep stocks of more than one month.
As regards new vehicles, supplies from United Kingdom (Avensis) and South Africa (Fortuner, Hilux & Corolla) are not affected in any way. Even with Japan supplies, we are yet to know the models that may be affected. We'll keep our esteemed customers updated as and when that information becomes available.
1st April, 2011
