Every year Toyota Ghana Co. Ltd. organizes a National Skills Contestfor the Technicians and Customer Service Delivery staff of the company.The main objective of the contest is to develop the skill and proficiency standard of our staff. The contest comprises of variouscompetitive stages, where staff are given the opportunity to exhibit their skills both theoretically and practically.
Since the inception of the contest in 2008,the National Technical Skills Contest has helped improved the skill level of most of our staff. This skill improvement has also translated to continuous improvement in our operations. The contest also serves as a form of motivation for our staff to always strive to be best. The winners of the contest are funded on a fully paid trip to Japan to participate in the Global Toyota Champions Assembly. There are other consolation prizes for all other participants.
This year’s grand finale contest was made up of 6 Service Advisors and 6 General Technicians from all our branches across the country. After a keenly contested competition, Rashid Adjei Laryea, Service Advisor from our Accra Branch and Enoch Ewusi Wilson, General Technician from Kumasi Branch emerged the champions.
The champions will be sponsored on a fully paid trip to Japan including flight, hotel accommodation and sightseeing. The two champions will get the opportunity to meet with other Toyota champions from around the world to share ideas and learn different skills each other.
The Managing Director of Toyota Ghana Co. Ltd., Mr. Takuya Kajiura, in his welcome address revealed that Toyota Ghana believes in continuous improvement. Thus, irrespective of the skill level of staff there is always room for improvement. He urged all staff to always strive to be exceptional in their service delivery.
The event was graced with the presence of a representative from the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations. In a speech read on his behalf, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Sammy-Longman Attakumah,applauded Management of Toyota Ghana for creating opportunities for further enhancement of the skills level and service delivery of staff. He urged other companies to emulate this initiative.
